Why My Training Works

Meaningful strength training:

Research shows that elderly individuals need to participate in substantial weight and resistance training to maintain full independence and reduce their risk for falls. This is not obtained by most programs but is a big part of my training. 3 pound ankle weights will not give the stimulus your body needs to dramatically improve. Research shows that higher level resistance training can be provided in a safe manner with limited risk for injury.  I load your muscles much more than this so that you can safely perform meaningful strength training under the supervision of a PT.

Quality Balance Training:

Research shows that older adults do not participate in nearly enough balance specific training. When they do participate, the quality is lacking leading to very little change.  To provide the highest quality balance training, I give individual specific training depending on their balance testing results. Whether the limitation is from lack of sensation, neuromuscular control, slow reaction time, reduced type 2 muscle fibers or difficulty maintaining balance on unsteady surfaces, I provide the training the matches the presenting impairment to maximize gains.  You will not get this level of training from a general exercise or balance class.

Priority on Programming

No matter how much training we do together, if exercises are not practiced between sessions and if you do not stay active regularly, the gains will be blunted.  This is why my training includes an continually evolving home exercise program that is updated as your balance improves. This is the only way to see meaningful changes.

Meaningful Stats

Falls are common

In 2020, the CDC reported that 28% of all older adults (over 65) suffered a fall.

Falls are serious

The CDC reports 37% of older adults who fall report an injury that requires medical treatment

Falls can be reduced

Participating in an individualized balance program shows fall reduction of 30% along with an injury reduction from falls of 28%

It's never too late

No matter your current physical levels, there is always something that can be trained and improved upon. As long as you have the drive and mindset to improve, I'll carve out the path using my experience and training to get you the fittest you've been in years.

When clients ask if it's too late for them, I emphatically say, "NO". Sometimes finding their motivation is all that is needed to take that first step. Many of my clients are motivated to go to their grandchildren's sporting events, staying out of an assisted living facility, being able to garden or go out to eat with their friends.

If there are things you still want to do but don't know how to get there, give my training a try. You are not done yet, there is still a life to be lived.
